Oftentimes our feet become planted; stuck as if in quicksand. The more we call ourselves trying to move forward the further in reverse we go. We know what we need to do but we fail to take action. We actually do the exact opposite. We end up putting ourselves in a deeper hole by failing to face our mental health challenges. Many of us tend to think that when we don’t address issues they go away.
A physical health issue, if left untreated, can worsen. The same can be said for mental illness. Someone who is lonely or depressed may use drugs or alcohol as a coping mechanism. If abused, alcoholism has been added to the equation. The mental illness continues to go unaddressed, and the alcoholism or drug abuse continues; overshadows the mental illness. This unfortunately is a cycle that must be broken. We can’t continue to be afraid of who we see in the mirror. If we intend to move forward, we have to face the ugly truths of past. Unveil the family secrets, stop pretending to be ok, ask our young adults if they are ok. When we begin to talk about what ails us, we realize that we are not alone. The quicksand becomes lighter, and we are able to move more freely.
All we need is a little positivity to stay in the BLACK. Continuing to move forward daily, one second, one minute, one hour at a time. 2022 has the potential to be absolutely amazing. If we just move on through whatever we’re going through. Moving on requires all around change. Let’s stop requiring or expecting closure; if people are ok without us, we have to accept that. Let’s love ourselves enough to live our happiest, best lives without them. The apology is not coming. If we accept the fact that we cannot change people no matter how much we may think they need change, moving on would be much easier.
On this Day 12, with nineteen days left until Christmas, the more we are holding on to the past memories, past hurts, memories of what was, and lost love we are falling behind. We are running out of time and are now in danger of being in the RED for the Christmas holiday. Time waits for no one! Get up, move those feet, and LIVE, LIVE, LIVE!!! Get back in the BLACK. It’s surprising how good letting go feels.
