You don’t have to respond

We’re well into the first week of May, and on Day 9 of Mental Health Awareness Month. The word for today is Trigger. I chose this word today, because everyone has triggers, yet everyone does not know what they are, nor do they know how to manage them. Triggers are events or situations that causes something to start.

Whether it be a comment or an actual action, sometimes people who actually know us…know our situation…will do things purposely in order to get a reaction out of us. In essence, they will tease or pick with us. Maybe we are afraid of a particular environment, task, place, or situation. If being in that situation causes us to panic or react in a negative manner, it is referred to as our “trigger“. It is important that we know our triggers so that we can learn to react in a positive manner. This allows us to prevent us from having bad responses to those who negatively affect us, and it further allows us to become in tune with our emotions and forces us to consider the mental well-being of others.

In order to be completely in tune with what triggers us, we must be clear about the status of our mental health. This requires a long, hard look in the mirror. Accepting our flaws as well as the flaws of others, we must never judge someone else’s story. All we can see is what lies on the outside; when our feelings are hidden, therefore, keeping in mind, the fragility of another person’s situation must be gently considered.

MENTAL HEALTH MATTERS!!! Defying the Stigma, one mind at a time.

I am a recently single mother of four wonderful adult children. I love young people and have a passion for developing and motivating people. After spending over thirty years in the customer service industry, and my world was suddenly turned upside down, I found myself having to start my life over. Realizing that I could no longer maintain a healthy mental state while working with the public, I decided to use my passion for helping people and motivating US to turn our PAIN INTO POWER.
