Not The End, Only the Beginning

Already, it is May 31st. This month has gone by in a flash. The last day of MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH. I cannot believe how fast the time went. I am excited and proud, however, because I have been successful in reaching many new people this month. I haven’t reached those who are close to me; those whom have played a part in my detriment; intentionally or otherwise. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get through to those who were disloyal, and who refuse to support for fear of being rejected by family and so-called friends. I will never reach those with misplaced loyalty; confusing loyalty with integrity and fairness, failing to set themselves apart from “the world” that we, as Christians, are supposedly, fighting so hard to been set apart from. I did, however, reach some of those who finally wanted different for their lives… for the lives of their children and grandchildren.

Thankfully, I was able to finally reach my former classmate who was afraid to speak…alone, hurting. I reached my girlfriend who finally decided to go to therapy…still hurting after twenty years of being a single mom…needing help and not getting it. I reached a young man in PA who is willing to speak about his experience with mental illness. No matter who I don’t get through to, those I do reach make my plight worth it.

Ironically, two years ago, I began to reveal my story about life and my battle with depression and anxiety. Since that time, some of those same people who would not support my platform are now so-called promoting mental health awareness as if it were their idea. These folks are those who support the next fad or slogan; doing what is popular… what they fail to realize is that the support that the mental health platform needs is more than a #hashtag#. It is more than a slogan or wearing a tee shirt. Mental Health Awareness is more than just one month. It is more than going to an exercise class or losing weight, getting a mani /pedi. Truly supporting the platform requires actively participating in promoting mental health awareness, financially supporting mental illness programs, doing your part to break the cycle by talking about the “family secrets”, and seeking therapy are just some examples of what it will take to truly support and make a difference in this fight for a healthy mind.

At one time, losing people and a lack of support would upset me. Now, it is a lifted weight. I look at it as God’s answers; his final stop for people who will no longer be a part of my life. They will not be a part of my Winning Season. When we are truly beginning to get in a healthy place mentally, we begin to think differently. We see more than what is on the surface. We want to feel good inside; mentally, spiritually, and emotionally. When these things are in order, the physical will come naturally.

Although there are only six months left in this year, 2022, and this is the last day of mental health awareness month, this is not the end. This is just the beginning. The beginning of making more people aware of how important taking care of their mental health is. It is the beginning of healing for those who haven’t began to heal, the beginning of removing masks, starting again and preparing for the victory. God allows u turns and second chances, therefore, even if it seems we are at the end, this is really just the beginning of a new happier and healthier life mind, body, and spirit. So many are still Dying to be perfect.

I am a recently single mother of four wonderful adult children. I love young people and have a passion for developing and motivating people. After spending over thirty years in the customer service industry, and my world was suddenly turned upside down, I found myself having to start my life over. Realizing that I could no longer maintain a healthy mental state while working with the public, I decided to use my passion for helping people and motivating US to turn our PAIN INTO POWER.
