As we prepare to begin a new school year, while we purchase the latest phone and accessories, expensive backpack or newest sneaker for our child, LET US NOT FORGET.
As we send our children to school with the freshest haircuts, hairstyles, nails and eyelashes, LET US NOT FORGET.
Before we bring our children Chic fil a, Subway, etc. to school for lunch, or pack them the most delicious snacks and the extravagant meals, LET US NOT FORGET.
Let us not forget the children who may have no phone at all because their parents can’t afford one. Don’t forget the children with no backpack and last year’s shoes.
Let us not forget the children who will not be able to get their haircut…those who will some days, attend school with their hair uncombed…who will look DIFFERENT, dress DIFFERENT.
Let us not forget those children who will come to school hungry due to a lack of food at home…school lunch may be the only meal they ever receive.
It was way back when, but you remember the child who was bullied for their hair. Did we forget the group who was talked about, or did we really care?
Was it you that had no meal, going to school alone mom and dad never home? Remember when they shared with you? We must teach our children to share too.
We used fists and they use guns. We are losing the lives of our daughters and sons. Daily tears and feeling alone, many of the youth aren’t making it home.
We quickly forget that returning to school, including college, is not an exciting time for everyone. Some students will experience bullying. When we were bullied in school, we cried, came back to school the next day and fought back. The kids today think that’s whack.
They may not tell a soul, instead they go back with a gun and kill everyone. They may even start carrying a knife …even worse, some take their own life. So, before we send our children off to school, returning them to the classroom of life…A LIFE OF HARD LESSONS, A LIFE OF FEW SECOND CHANCES, AND A LIFE WHERE OUR CHILDREN HAVE IT MORE DIFFICULT THAN WE EVER DID…LET US NOT FORGET.
No, don’t forget. Remember…we must remember to teach our children that it is ok to be different…for them to be different…for others to be different. We must remember so that we are able to teach them to be gentle and kind, in a world that is far from gentle and far from kind. LET US NOT FORGET!
