It’s the first full week of a new month, and still, no changes. Our youth are still both the perpetrators and the victims of gun violence. Our crime rate continues to increase. Families continue to fall apart, and unfortunately, loyalties continue to fall by the wayside. These things, for whatever reason, seem to be the way of the world. These examples are clear indicators that mental health, for many, is not at the top of the list of priorities. I, like many others, continue to try to figure out how to make a difference…invoke change…so that eventually things will drastically improve.
Many of us are seeking change. Change is needed not only in our homes, but in our streets, schools and churches. Some of us are actively working to enact change, yet nothing seems to be happening. DON’T GIVE UP! Your vision for change is YOUR vision. Do not allow the stale leadership and lack of support from others to prevent you from fully developing your ideas. Many people fail to lead with open minds. Some are afraid of the discomfort change will bring. They fail to realize that change is needed for growth. I believe that these people are more concerned with how the change will affect them rather than the positive affects it will have on those the work is geared toward.
I encourage everyone who is disheartened by the tragedies of the world today, to be the difference that you want to see. Begin by no longer fearing those who continue to block your vision. The Lord God will protect those who are on the battlefield for Him. When we are on a mission to bring others to Christ, there will often require change. No matter how uncomfortable that change may be, or the resistance we will receive, bringing others to Christ is our purpose. Often, others will be blinded by our vision because it fails to align with theirs. Do not shrink yourself or lose your vision. Simply allow them to borrow your sunglasses in order for them to no longer be blinded by your light.
We are in need of change. People need to see, feel and do NEW and EXCITING things that will give them hope while allowing them to see that God is real. Our youth, and those we are looking to help, need see and feel that people care and that there are different ways of doing things. It seems that the staleness of leadership is what is causing us to fail. This is happening in our communities, our workplaces, and in our churches. God speaks to us in 2 Corinthians 5:17.” Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” When we are truly doing the work of God, we have to allow new visions. Being afraid of change is natural, however it is necessary in order to make a difference.
As you continue your work, whether for your church, your job, your home…whatever your vision may be, keep going. I know that it is never easy. When friends, family, enemies or anyone tells you why you CAN’T, listen to God who tells you that you CAN. When God gives you a vision, he will make it clearer as you continue to see it through. Don’t be dismayed because of those who are against you; they are simply blinded by the brightness of your vision. Continue to blind them with a light so bright that your vision becomes theirs too.
