Happy Wednesday! Recently I’ve been binge watching Tubi movies π¬. I watched The Past Three Years not long ago. It is a must see! I nearly gave up on it several times, but I’m glad that I didn’t. The writing was creative and the way the story is being told through flashbacks kept me engaged. The acting was decent, and the storyline was real, and pertinent to the cultural issues that many blacks, espescially in the inner-city, are currently experiencing.
Unlike many of the movies I’ve seen on Tubi, The Past Three Years was more than entertaining. This was a movie with purpose. The movie brought awareness to domestic violence, drug addiction, alcoholism, self-awareness, self-love, narcissism, mental illness, the importance of loyalty and family, and so much more.
There is much more I could say regarding the storyline, but there is too much to name. The fact is, anyone viewing this movie with an open mind and from a place of self awareness, can see the varying underlying issues, on both sides, which played significant parts in what took place in the movie.
Unfortunately, this movie π¬ is a depiction real life. Although it may not be the life for me or for you, it is the life of someone you know or someone reading this. It is definitely the life of many who will watch the movie. The horror in the storyline is the depiction of what has been happening in the homes and lives of far too many, and for far too long. These horrors have gone on from generations for centuries and have unfortunately, become a part of the everyday lives of some.
Watching the movie, it may seem unrealistic to some. Others may find it boring because it is simply their normal way of life. I found it sad. As I watched, I saw everything in the movie that is transpiring in our world daily. All that is manifesting itself into our un checked mental health crisis…all that has torn at, and broken down, the fabric of our communities, for far too long.
If we all could use this movie as motivation to fix our lives, and ultimately, fix the world, imagine how much happier we would be. “Is anyone really happy“? That’s the question so often asked. “No one is really happy “. That’s the falsehood so many tell. Not participating in attempting, to collectively fix “us”, because happiness is impossible, is in my opinion, why misery loves company. If we would all simply worry about attempting to be our best selves, correct our wrongs, strive to be and give better than what we had, and break generational curses, we would see that happiness is not a fallacy, but truly attainable. The real challenge, is that too many people are trying to figure out if others are happy. We are responsible for our own happiness. What we determine will make us happy individually, is subjective.
Do yourself a favor and watch The Past Three Years. I promise that it will not be a waste of time. If this movie π¬ doesn’t open your eyes to what’s happening around us, maybe you know someone else it will help. Happy viewing, and let me know what you think.
