NOT LAZY…SICK

Day 14 of MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH:

There are too many assumptions and not enough empathy when it comes to trying to comprehend the complexities of mental illness. Far too many people are judging from outward appearances, what others are going through. Rather than be gentle, offer assistance or simply dont judge, people tend to worsen the mental health of others, simply by failing to understand, or even care to understand the struggles associated with those battling mental health challenges.

We all must realize that it’s not that people are not dependable, lazy, lack motivation or want sympathy. That THING that has caused an individual’s trauma has put them in an unhealthy place mentally. Especially when there is narcissistic abuse involved, all of the stress and fighting to stay alive, has made it nearly impossible for the person to show up. After all, how can someone constantly show up for others, when they are fighting to show up for themselves?

Speaking from experience, the constant battle to save my mental state, at some point, has manifested into a non stop battle of me trying to now, keep my physical health in tact. So no, WE aren’t lazy. WE aren’t just always in bed. WE aren’t just being selfish, and thinking about only ourselves. I for one, think more about trying to help others pull through, than I worry about myself. The fact is, often, Im in so much pain; mentally and spiritually, that I am physically unable to do anymore than what I am doing.

Please try and be empathetic to those who just can’t seem to ‘get it together’. Oftentimes, they are physically ill and are suffering in silence. If we believe nothing else, we must believe that no matter how good a person looks on the outside, after going through a major trauma, they may be battling the will to keep going. They may even feel like they can’t go on. More often than not, what’s going on inside of an individual can be something that others will never understand. Prayerfully, you will never have to experience depression, anxiety, ptsd, ocd or many of the various mental illnesses that EVENTUALLY CAN CAUSE PHYSICAL AILMENTS. Our bodies are not built to repeatedly take on loads of stress from unresolved and repeated traumas. The after affects…even when the mind and spirt are healed, may still cause the body to be in turmoil. So please, just Be kind. Be understanding. Show love. Someone you claim to love is not ok, and they need your support. Remember, WE are NOT LAZY, WE ARE SICK.

THANK GOD I DON’T LOOK LIKE WHAT I’VE BEEN THROUGH
