The Holy Family

While I’m in the dark, listening to the rain, I reflect. I remember, in the past, this usually being an important Sunday for my family and I. Today, the last Sunday, of 2025, is The Feast of the Holy Family. This feast day celebrates the example of what God intended a family to be, through the example of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph. The unit that was displayed in this family was holy, as shown by the love and care that was displayed. As we reflect on the display of a man, a woman, and a child, depicted in pictures, we are reminded of the virtues that each family member embodies. The Feast of the Holy Family, celebrated on today, December 29, 2024, honors Jesus, Mary, and Joseph as a model for all Christian families.

Being a woman of Catholic faith, the Feast of the Holy Family was always important to me. My faith allowed me to use this model of what a family was, to make it through some of the most difficult times during my twenty-one years of marriage. Even with the imperfections, I did all I could to strive toward having a loving, caring and faithful family unit. Today, I realized that I have not attended Mass on this feast day since 2018. The realization that my family dynamic changed, has subconsciously prevented me from continuing to see the importance of this feast day. I have made the promise, after this year, to continue to make The Holy Family, an important day moving forward. Every family, regardless of the dynamic, should seek the love and care that a HOLY FAMILY brings.

As I begin to rest for the night, I am thankful to God for all of the years that He gave me to strive for love, hope, joy, and peace within my family unit. I ask for continued protection for me and my family. I pray that we continue to grow stronger in our faith and develop the love for family that God intended. As I type this, I am reminded that family is not only blood; it is the family that we create through life’s journey. I am reminded that all family will not be blood related, and in today’s world, we must take and give all of the love we can get.

I pray today, that each family; traditional or otherwise, will see the blessings of the hope, joy, peace and love that family brings. Although the HOLY FAMILY reflects the sacred bond of love and care that God had for marriage, and domestic life, I believe that whatever family that we are blessed with, if it focuses on mutual support, faithfulness, and openness to life commitment, it is holy. May every eye that reads this, strive to achieve a healthy and loving family unit, and add to the mental, physical, and spiritual wellness, and happiness of those they encounter. As we work together in service to one another, God will heal us, strengthen us, and motivate us to become better, together, in 2025 and beyond.

I am a recently single mother of four wonderful adult children. I love young people and have a passion for developing and motivating people. After spending over thirty years in the customer service industry, and my world was suddenly turned upside down, I found myself having to start my life over. Realizing that I could no longer maintain a healthy mental state while working with the public, I decided to use my passion for helping people and motivating US to turn our PAIN INTO POWER.
